Merit Advisors was formed by Paul Cunningham in 1988. It was birthed out of frustration with the stream of investment recommendations coming out of the research department of his broker/dealer. Paul found there was always plenty of "buy" advice, but never any "sell" advice, even in bear markets. He became convinced there was a better way to help investors manage their investments. While many securities do perform well over time, the question Paul was asking was whether similar, or better, results could be achieved without the volatility associated with the stock market. After extensive research and back testing, Merit's High Yield Bond Strategy was created. Paul went "live" with the model in June of 1987. In September of 2010 Merit launched a new investment strategy, which we call our Multi-Sector Bond Strategy. It employs a model similar to the time-tested model used for our high yield bond strategy.
