Performance Disclosures

Past performance may not be indicative of future results. Therefore, no current or prospective client should assume that the future performance of any specific investment or investment strategy will be profitable or equal to past performance levels. All investment strategies have the potential for profit or loss. Changes in investment strategies, contributions or withdrawals may materially alter the performance and results of your portfolio. Different types of investments involve varying degrees of risk, and there can be no assurance that any specific investment will either be suitable or profitable for a client’s investment portfolio. Historical performance results for investment indexes and/or categories generally do not reflect the deduction of transaction and/or custodial charges, nor the deduction of an investment-management fee, the incurrence of which would have the effect of decreasing historical performance results. Economic factors, market conditions and investment strategies will affect the performance of any portfolio, and there are no assurances that it will match or outperform any particular benchmark. Returns from Merit’s investment strategies are NOT BANK GUARANTEED, NOT FDIC INSURED and MAY LOSE MONEY. Before you invest, you should obtain and study the fund’s prospectus. There are no assurances that any portfolio will match or outperform any particular benchmark. Because it is not possible to invest directly in the Lipper Index, actual client results varied from the performance reports shown on this website.

Additional Disclosures and Considerations

The investment management fee paid to Merit is separate and distinct from the internal fees and expenses charged by mutual funds to their shareholders. These fees and expenses are described in each fund’s prospectus, and generally will include a management fee, internal investment, custodial and other expenses, and a possible distribution fee. Prospective clients should consider all of these fees and charges when deciding whether to invest using our strategies. Performance results for these strategies do not reflect the impact of taxes. Program accounts may engage in a significant amount of trading. Gains or losses generally will be short term in nature; consequently, these strategies likely will not be suitable for clients seeking tax efficiency. A variable annuity can be used to provide a tax-deferred investment vehicle.

Merit’s investment strategies may be offered within a variable annuity. Variable annuities and mutual funds are sold only by prospectus. Please carefully consider the product’s features, risks, charges and expenses, and investment objectives, risks and policies of the underlying portfolios, as well as other information about underlying fund options, before investing. The prospectus, which contains this and other information about the investment company, can be obtained from your financial professional. Be sure to carefully read the prospectus before deciding whether to invest.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 Total Return Index (S&P500 TR) is a capitalization-weighted index of 500 stocks with dividends reinvested. The index is designed to measure performance of the broad domestic economy through changes in the aggregate market value of 500 stocks representing all major industries. The Lipper High Yield Index provides a measure of the performance of 30 of the largest high-yield bond mutual funds. Securities are classified as high-yield if the middle rating of Moody’s, Fitch, and S&P is Ba1/BB+/BB+ or below. The Lipper Multi-Sector Bond Index provides a measure of the performance of 10 of the largest multi-sector bond mutual funds. The historical performance results of the S&P 500 Total Return, the Lipper High Yield Index and the Lipper Multi-Sector Bond Index do not reflect the deduction of transaction or custodial charges, nor the deduction of an investment management fee, which would decrease historical performance results. Investors cannot directly invest in the S&P 500 Total Return Index, the Lipper High Yield Index or the Lipper Multi-Sector Bond Index. Performance of these indices is provided solely for purposes of comparison, to assist prospective clients in determining whether this program is generally suitable for their account. The use of these indices should not be construed as their endorsement of Merit’s management service.
